➤ Why can an individual labor supply curve bend backward?
A backward-bending supply curve occurs when higher wages lead workers to supply fewer hours. This happens if the income effect (more income leads to more leisure) outweighs the substitution effect (work becoming relatively more attractive). It often appears at high wage levels or for workers with strong preferences for leisure and nonmarket activities.
